Linux Mint may be it

I’ve been using Linux Mint for a while now.

I started using linux because my machine stopped getting macOS updates.

But I always wanted something as stable as macOS

Initially I tried Tuxedo OS.

While it looked nice, there were tiny issues that I couldn’t ignore.

Things like “WiFi completly going away” put the break to the flow.

Hibernate did not work.

Ghostty didn’t work

I can go on.

I’ve been using Linux Mint for a less than a month, and it seems quite stable.

I have not seen any of the “paper cuts” I faced with Tuxedo OS. 🤞

and then last week, I came across a good surprise.

Usually I work from home, but last week I needed to go to office.

At home, I have an external monitor, and the latop’s builtin screen is closed by default.

Earlier, whenever I needed to switch from external monitor to built-in one, it was a hassle.

Not so with mint.

I opened the lid, and disconnected the HDMI

I had fully expected to see tiny characters (Cause it is a retina display)

But the scaling was auto adjusted.

Awesome!

Then I had to take the laptop to the meeting, so I tried “Suspend” (I don’t get hibernate option - but I’ve given up hope and it does not bother me any more)

To be honest, I’m not sure whether Suspend worked.

Because the apple logo was lit. again. after few seconds.

I assume suspend did not work.

I didn’t have to travel long, so I didn’t bother.

I did not have to open the laptop during my meeting.

When I came back, I had fully expected the battery to have drained, and having to restart and lose my work.

But looks like suspend had worked.

Or was it hibernate ?

Cause I had to hit the power button to start the laptop

But it came back “from sleep” with everything in tact.

I was pleasantly surprised.

I tried this one more time, and it worked second time as well.

If I can just close the lid and leave, and not have to worry about losing my work (and/or battery) I think I may have found nirvana 😄

I will be using mint for a while, and will update this post if I find any other issues.
